Patrick Olson, founder of the End of Watch Project and owner of Olson Wood Works, is a 28-year veteran of Minnesota law enforcement, retired in 2010. He made his first retirement shadowbox in 2003 for his former partner, which led to building hundreds more for others. Several years ago, he began to get requests to build urns for the ashes of loved ones and beloved pets.
One of these requests came from a fellow LEO after the passing of his father. Upon receiving his father's urn, he offered to pay it forward for the next urn. Word spread, and this generosity has occurred several times since, allowing Pat to provide urns at little or no cost to families in their time of grief.
And so the idea was born: TheEnd of Watch Project, aimed at keeping alive the law enforcement tradition of taking care of each other. During times of crisis and grief, we often say, "If there's anything I can do ..." Well, this is something we can all do! When you buy an End of Watch challenge coin, the proceeds will go directly into the project to provide cremation urns for officers and police K-9s. This will include the urns themselves as well as materials, supplies and shipping if necessary. Pat handcrafts each urn using solid wood (oak, walnut or cherry) and brass handles.
